This is a pencil drawing that I created of the Junipero Serra Museum
which is located in Presidio Park above Old Town State Historic Park,
this striking mission-style building was constructed in 1929 to commemorate
the site where Father
Junipero Serra and Captain
Gaspar de Portola established the first mission and fortified
settlement in present-day California. The museum showcases artifacts
such as housewares, period clothing, furniture, tools and a cannon
and cannonballs from the Native American, Spanish and Mexican periods
through 1848. This is that White building dominating the landscape
near the intersection of I-5 and I-8 in San Diego. This is often referred
to as the Plymouth Rock of California because this is the first settlement
(July 16, 1769) in California. Friar Serra founded Mission San Diego
de Alcala on this site but in 1774 was moved to its present site 6
miles inland near Qualcomm Stadium.
The Junipero Serra Museum image is printed landscape on a 20”x 13” sheet of off white heavy paper stock in a dark sepia ink. The actual image size is 8”x 11” centered landscape on the heavy stock. |
